Hellogoodbye - Here In Your Arms

The music video is produced by Drive-Thru Records in 2006. The genre of this music video is Electronic-pop aka "Electropop".

Electropop songs are pop songs at heart, often with simple, catchy hooks and dance beats, but differing from those of electronic dance music genres which electropop helped to inspire, techno, house, electroclash, etc. in that songwriting is emphasized over simple dance ability.
The term "Electropop" was used primarily during the 1980s to describe a form of synthpop characterized by an emphasized electronic sound, often described as cold and robotic, and by minimal arrangements. This was mainly due to the limitations of the analog synthesizers and recording techniques used at the time, but has since become a stylistic choice. Electropop laid the groundwork for a mass market in chart-oriented synthpop.
Electropop is also known as technopop that's a form of electronic music that is make with synthesizers and which first flourished from 1978 to 1983. The genre has seen revival of popularity and influence since the late 2000s.

The current wave of electropop artists such as American singer Katy Perry had a huge hit with "Hot n Cold" which had an electropop flavour. The media saw a rise of popularity of female electropop artists. In 2009 ten of the top fifteen artists named were of the electropop genre. Music writer Simon Reynolds noted that "Everything about Gaga come from electroclash, expect the music, which wasn't particularly 1980s".
Other female electropop artists such as Elly Jackson of La Roux, Ellie Goulding, and Little Boots.
Male acts: Owl City, who had a number 1 US single.

"Here (In Your Arms)" released in 2006, the song was certified platinum in the US and remains the band's most successful song to date.

The video was set at Camp Holadios, "Holadios" means "Hellogoodbye" in Spanish, a fictional summer camp. While the band members are all staying there, Forrest becomes interested in a girl who was also at camp. The music video has a very interesting aesthetic, as campers play with pogs. At the end of the video, the sign states "Summer of '91". The video also reminiscent of the film Wet Hot American Summer. One of the references to this movie was when Forrest puts on the headband and sunglasses similar to the change that "Coop" undergoes to win the affection of a girl with the same name, "Katie".

The theme of this video is a stereo typically America based teen life style which audience may have seen in American film . Films such as Mean Girls, American Pie series, Euro Trip, Super bad, Easy A, 10 Things I Hate About You and Freaky Friday. The music video reminds me of American Pie:Band Camp. As there are elements on the film and the music video which are very similar. For example both locations are set in a Summer Camp. The lead singer and main actor for this music video is "Forrest Kline" shown at the beginning of the clip, as he's getting ready changed. "Forrest Kline" was a "geek", "nerd", in this video. That appearance of the actor shows this. That was the shoes he was wearing, the way he ties his shoe lace and the way he wipes h
glasses and the shape of his glasses. Audience automatically knows that there's going to be some event later on, as well as this is going to be a "love" music video as shown at 0:20 a picture of a girl. This connotes the girl of his dreams, who was also a childhood friend as the girl in the photograph was in her early adolescent years. The next shot shows a leaflet, in bold capital font it says "THE END OF CAMP DANCE IS 2NITE" this shows that there is going to be party tonight and it may be the last for the main actor to get chance to kiss/interact with the girls of his dreams.

Some form of gamble was shown in the video, at 0:26 a male actor with bleach blonde hair, goes to a guy hat on and feet up, connotes a underground mafia or similar to a shark loan. The cinematography gives this impression off to the audience by the shot of the luggage/suitcase lock opening one by one, whist the next shot was the actor with hat on with a the luggage taken half of the frame and only just able to see the smirk of the actor and the rest of his face. He actor then picks up his notebook and writes down the name and amount of money taken by the male actor with bleach blonde hair. The story continue from 0:45 where the bleach blonde male actor was gambling with another actor, who was in a black t-shirt. This made the actor stand out compare to the rest. As the rest are in yellow, the camp t-shirt. Blonde hair actor wants to beat/win the other actor as he is being watch by other and be doesn't want to lost face. The actor is black is one of the members of "Hellogoodbye". At 0:58 the blonde hair actor facial expression shows that he is really upset, in pain emotionally as he was expecting to win back all his chips where as now he is in debt. Whist the actor in black collects the chips in slow motion purposely to irritate the other actor.

At 0:34 shows a male actor chatting up to red head female actor. The male actor on scene is the "popular guy", what shows this is the way he's shirt is as the shirt is sleeveless allowing him to reveal his biceps, the height of the actor and his body form (athlete). The headband also shows a form of popularity. As they are about to kiss, he got interrupted/attacked by a camper.

From 0:43 there are male campers who are filling their mouth with bubble gum, to keep their breathe fresh as they are presuming/expecting to be kissing girls at the party tonight.

From 0:49 shows the lead singer of "Hellogoodbye" dancing in the dark outdoors, the mise-en-snce shows this is the green surrounding within the frame. Forrest Kline is dancing hysterically. The story of the video is during daytime however this scene is in night time. This shows a different time scale. After watching the whole music video, the scene/location all together happens after the party, as he lose control after kissing the girl of his dreams. Another element that gives off this impression is the sunglasses he has with him, as he came in contact with the sunglasses at the party and not beforehand as they are not his possession.

At 1:02 there is a video transition of a wipe of a clock in the direction of clockwise. This shows the time lapse, fast forward or "it is time". As everyone heads of to the destination, where the event is placed. It is obvious who the members of "Hellogoodbye" are as they are wearing obvious clothing that stand out to the rest of the crowd. Only the members of "Hellogoodbye" are in their own clothes and the rest of the crowd/actors are in the camp uniform (yellow shirt and green shorts). After the video transition clock the video has 2 cuts within that scene, this is used to empathise the beats of music. The same editting of stuter cuts have been used before in the video from 0:40 to 0:42. There is a scene where there are duckling heading to the event. Shows that it is a event that can not be missed.

At 1:10 there are a crowd of girls walking/running towards the camera and out the frame, running away from something once they're all out of the centre of the frame, reveals 3 muscular black men. The crowd of girls run toward one of the band members of "Hellogoodbye", the member's appearance looks like John Travolta when he was starring in "Grease". The black man on the left was holding something blue in his hands. The next shot shows the band member talking to some girls. The blue item then ended up in the centre man's hand, then he through something blue to the member. That looked like a jacket or towel. In the next show reveals the item thrown to the member appearing red. I do not get why the colour changed. It may be a continuity editing error or either on purpose. The red cloth/clothing can mean a warning sign, for example not swim in the sea is a red flag is on display. Red flag also means something demanding attention or provoke an irritated reaction . For example waving a red cloth/flag at a bull.
Later on, in the video the band member is wearing all red sportswear, looking like a gangster. The band member was giving each other friendly hug to one of the black man. Shows that they've become friends.

From 1:17 is when the climate begins, as Forrest finally meets the girl of his dreams, he sees people surround him making out, who are they guys are also not the "popular kids", Forrest then builds up his courage and take item's off others (popular icon, of what all the "popular kids" wear e.g. the headband and retro sunglasses). Forrest's friends back his up by giving Forrest a shoulder massage, this is an expression of encouragement as it is what team/friends do to a boxer/fighter before the a match. What suggests this idea is the facial expression Forrest gives off to his audience, taking a deep breathe and slapping himself to wake himself up.
Forrest then goes up to the girl of his dreams and offer her gum, ideologically when a person accept gum from another it shows that they're going to make out.

There are flashbacks of a scene from the beginning of the music video of when Forrest looks at the picture of his childhood friend (girl of his dreams) the beat of the music and the flashback and forward matches with each other to create tension and to empathises the beat of the music to their audience. This also connotes the beat and speed of Forrest's heartbeat. When its the time of the moment, the beat of the music pauses the emotions delivered to the audience is nervousness, when Forrest looks round/over his shoulder, he gives off a nervous laughter. The lyrics of this scene are "Our lips can touch. Our lips can touch, Here." the speed and level of music is slow, soft and gentle. A clip of Forrest is shown of him winking and then the next clip shown is Forrest and the girl of his dreams making out . This shows that he's finally kiss the girl of his dreams, to express his emotions the camera work is a dolly shot. The camera circulates round Forrest and the girl as though Forrest feels like he's in heaven. No lyrics are sung at the moment in time, all the urge of emotions and feelings to be delivered to the audiences.

From 2:34, shows performance as the audience see the Hellogoodbye band altogether. As well as a mixtures of other clips showing other couples making out, the guys who were ment to be having a fight makes up, cuts back to the dolly shot of Forrest making out with the girl, still no lyrics sung. Then sudden cut to performance of Forrest as lead vocals singing "You are the one, the one. Who lies close to me..." Along with other clips of the band on their instruments. The shots afterwards that are shown are majority performance the camera shows the audiences, the band on stage along with other cast of "audience/viewers/fans (wearing the camp uniform)" The Hellogoodbye plays two roles in the music video, as students staying at the summer camp and as a hired band to play at the "END OF CAMP DANCE". What connotes this in the music video is at 2:59 shows a student (wearing a camp uniform) thats staying at the camp in shallow depth of field, whilst the negative space shows the "fans/students" and Forrest as "hired band".
Shot reverse shots of the "hired band" and students of the same people i.e. Hellogoodbye members, makes the audience feel as though there's a double of the person. 7

The video ends with applause, from casts within the video. The applause is for Forrest as actor as well as Forrest as "lead singer from hired band", saying a job well done. The clip then cuts to a crane shot of the camp to the entry board that was shown at the beginning of the music video. Thats says " Camp Holadios Summer of '91", this gives of a message that "what happens at camp stays/end at camp".

This music video is mainly narrative with performance at the end of the video. The narrative of this video is love, set out like a stereo typically American based teen life style. The antagonist is Forrest Kline and the protagonist is the "end of camp dance" as its what disrupted the equilibrium. As the music video is base round the affects of the camp dance. Once the "end of camp dance" have ended it has been re-equilibrium.

The representation for this music video is that "you can succeed anything as long as you have the courage to do so" as in the music video is shows that a "geek" can make out with a "popular". This breaking the norms of what would normally not have been acceptable in a typical America teen lifestyle.

Audience are people who are fans of eletropop music and into pop culture. People who like music with a good beat and a narrative plot. From the age range of "11 - 35".

Lyrics

I like,
Where we are,
When we drive,
In your car.
I like,
Where we are,
Here.

Cause our lips,
Can touch.
And our cheeks,
Can brush.
Our lips can touch,
Here.

Where you are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, "Hello,
I've missed you quite terribly."
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now there's no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your arms.

I like,
Where you sleep,
When you sleep,
Next to me.
I like,
Where you sleep,
Here.

Our lips,
Can touch.
And our cheeks,
Can brush.
Cause our lips can touch,
Here.

Where you are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, "Hello,
I've missed you quite terribly."
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now there's no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your arms.

Our lips can touch.
Our lips can touch,
Here.

You are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, "Hello,
I've missed you quite terribly."
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now there's no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your...

You are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, "Hello,
I've missed you quite, miss you quite..."
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now theres no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your arms.

Here in your arms.
Oh, here in your... arms.
