Development of music video updates 1

~Video Sample

This is what we have done so far, there are gaps/blanks on the video (as shown on the print screen image) as we haven't got the suitable exterior shots that we are happy with to be placed onto the clip. The reason why we haven't done any retakes for the exterior shots are due to the weather conditions in Hull (across the Nation), the heavy snow.

Codes and Conventions of digipaks and magazine adverts

Codes and Conventions for digipaks

To make my digipak realistic and professional, I have been looking at some existing digipaks for the conventions that are included in digipaks, for example, the main image, band name, track lists. All majority of digipaks are created for special or limited edition disks and DVDs of gigs/concerts. A digipak included a CD and a DVD.

All digipak includes the following information:
  • Visual image/key to the production
  • Band/artist name - allow audience to identify band/artist
  • Album title - on main cover and along the spine
  • Track list/What's on the DVD
  • Basic background information of the band/artist
  • (occasions reviews from companies e.g. NME, News Of The World etc...)

Front Panel - Main image, usually of the artist/band or something that iconic/symbolic of them. Name of artist and album (in big font, to catch audiences' attention).

Spine(s) - Names of artist/band and album, institution.

Back Panel - Usually track list, and printed on in contrasting colours so its readable.

Fold in Panel - Often a image of artist/band, however if its a long fold out, the fold in panel would be a continued from the Front and Back Panel.

Inside Panels - CD, maybe even a booklet. Often images of artist/band or something symbolic/iconic printed inside, behind the discs. There may also be information about the album and quotes by the artist/band written inside the digipak.

Colour Scheme - Usually reflects the mood of album or the genre of the tracks/songs on the disc.

Codes and Conventions of a Magazine Advertisements

To make my Magazine Advertisement realistic and professional, I have been looking at existing Magazine Advertisements for the conventions that are included in magazine advertisement for a new albums/digipaks. Conventions such as the main image, artist/band name and album name.

All allbum/digipak magazine advertisement includes the the following information:
  • Visual image/key to the production
  • Band/artist name - allow audience to identify band/artist
  • Date of release of album/digipak availability
  • A name of company/retail - where the album/digipak is available to purchase
The music video must link with the digipak and magazine advertisement, making it distinctive and easily recognisable for our audience.

Music Magazine

  • NME
  • UNCUT
  • THE WIRE
  • MOJO
  • RWD
  • Q
  • KERRANG!

Chosen magazine advertisment for our frictional character would either be in KERRANG, MOJO or NME this is because our target audience is similar to the magazine's target audience. Placing an advertsiment in a similar target audience magazine is esstential. For example our artist fits in a indie, alternative rock genre. We wouldn't request a page of advertisment in RWD which their genre of music chosen is Hip-hop, R&B, House, Dubstep and pop. As the audience of RWD would not be interested in indie and alternative rock. Therefore it would be a waste of money to do so.

My choosen magazine is NME. As shown below is the cost for a whole page's worth of advert in NME magazine printed in colour. This gives a realist idea of how much it will be costing.

Cost -Full Colour - Run of Paper - Whole Page - £6,920

Colour Special Positions - 1st RH - £7,910

Total - £14,830 - The advert for the chosen magazine will be printed colour and will be taking up a page's worth of advertisement.

Page Type - 280x222mm - This is the measurement of the page for the magazine advertisement.

Page Trim - 300x242mm - This is the the measurement for the border size which will be folded over the page.

Page Bleed - 306x248mm

Full Page - £ 4,635

Full Page - 283 mm X 225 mm

File Type - PDF - Photoshop File - I am going to create my advert on photoshop, using the same software as the company to creating the advertisement.

Updates

In the past week 1st December -5th December, due to heavy snow we have delayed our schedule as the college was closed, buses not operating, unable to go out, therefore we were unable to do any further editing and filming as we needed to film the exterior.
As the snow now have stop but now still waiting for the snow/ice to melt away, till we can film the exterior shots.
